The Obici Healthcare Foundation is a private foundation established with funds from the 2006 merger of Louise Obici Memorial Hospital and Sentara Healthcare in southeastern Virginia. As an independent entity, the Foundation works to meet the healthcare needs of the indigent and uninsured in the previous service area of Louise Obici Memorial Hospital that includes the cities of Suffolk and Franklin and a number of surrounding communities. Through its support of healthcare and programs that help prevent illness and disease, the Foundation continues the spirit of concern for others shown by Amedeo Obici, the founder of Planter’s Peanuts, when he built a hospital as a memorial to his wife.
